Jacqueline (Jacky) Hua, Ph.D., M.P.H. is a Cancer Prevention Fellow in the Basic Biobehavioral and Psychological Sciences Branch of the Behavioral Research Program.
Dr. Hua's research focuses on the intersection of social and health psychology. In particular, she is interested in how psychological and social factors (e.g., identity, self-affirmation, social support) influence cancer-related decision making and cancer preventive behaviors. She is also interested in racial/ethnic minority health and the factors that contribute to racial/ethnic disparities in cancer. During her fellowship, Dr. Hua aims to develop a portfolio of projects that span multiple types of cancer-related decisions and behavior, including decisions to avoid cancer information, cancer treatment decisions, vaccination, and cancer screening.
Dr. Hua earned a Ph.D. in health psychology at the University of California, Merced, where her dissertation proposed a model for predicting decisions to avoid health information. She also earned a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley where her research focused on cervical cancer screening among Vietnamese populations.
